Healing-Centered Yoga Teacher Training with Nancy Candea

Starts this June

With guest teachers:

Lisa Franey, Michelle Radley, Jeannette Howard and Alejandra Tannous

Who is this training for?

  • Everyone who has the desire understand how to take deep care of their body and mind.

  • Anyone who wants to help others find peacefulness and health.

  • Anyone desiring how to teach meditation, mindfulness, and physical yoga practices, on the mat or in a chair.

  • Anyone who has some yoga background.

  • Any body. You don’t need to be flexible or a certain body size to teach yoga. You just need to want to do it!

This is why I think that you will enjoy learning and doing the training with us:

  • I have been studying yoga for 38 years. I started learning meditation and yoga philosophy at the Himalayan Institute in Minneapolis when I was working through addiction issues and trying to figure out a direction in life. After that, I studied with amazing teachers in the Iyengar, Ashtanga, and yoga therapy traditions. I owned a yoga studio in Hawaii for 5 years before teaching in Colorado, and Northern New Jersey.

  • The guest teachers are amazing women who live their yoga practice and are healing just to be around!

  • I founded a non-profit called Yoga Impact (2009) which creates yoga programming and trainings for people who typically don’t go to yoga studios. It has programs in Hawaii, Colorado, and New Jersey.

  • I have created a program called The Living Boldly Project which focuses on helping women, midlife and beyond to live in the present moment and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

  • I’ve been teaching yoga for 27 years and training yoga teachers and yoga therapists for 15 years, all over the world. this has helped me to understand the collective strengths and service that yoga teachers offer.

The time commitment:

All hours are included in your tuition

Hours you will complete over the summer with Nancy, faculty and recommended teachers

  • 20 hours Training Meeting: There will be 8 weekly 2.5 hour meetings on Zoom (or you are welcome to come over)

    • You can choose to do the training meeting on Saturday morning (10-12:30) OR Monday afternoon (1-3:30). The start dates are Monday June 3, OR Saturday June 8.

  • 30 hours Intensive (in-person or self-study). This week intensive will be held at Underhill in Rockaway, New Jersey on August 5-9. (If you aren’t able to attend, we will need to set up an alternative course of study for the hours missed.) The training will be 6 hours a day.

  • 35 hours Personal Practice (roll out your mat and do a yoga practice that can include, asanas, breathing, meditation, or philosophy study for at least 4 hours a week. You will record this in a journal and bring questions/reflections to the weekly meeting)

Hours you will do in your own time

The next set of hours can be completed during the summer or may extend into the fall. There is no time limit on how long the training takes you, but I’ll encourage you to try to complete it by the fall.

  • 40 hours of classes with Nancy in-person or on Zoom (keep notes be prepared to discuss at weekly meeting)

  • 20 hours of classes with recommended teachers (from a list that I will provide)

  • 20 hours of on-demand study with videos on asana, meditiaton, lifestyle and philopsphy

  • 25 hours of homework that includes memorizing some anatomy terms, reading the manual and books, and creating lesson plans for your target demographics.

  • 10 hours of practice teaching to friends and other yoga trainees.

An additonal 10+ hours

  • I would like to spend some time with you before the training, or in the first month, to go over any injuries or limitations that you have regarding your yoga practice.

  • You can call me, talk to me after class, or email me any questions or thoughts anytime during the training or the rest of your life.

  • We can also do a Zoom with friends or family that you would like to help with yoga. I’m happy to teach you how to work with them.

  • I know that life can get in the way sometimes. Once you pay for the training, you can take it as many times as you need to.

The Cost and Books

The cost of the training is $10/per hour: $2000. This includes everything outlined in the 200-hour curriculum. A check is my favorite because there aren't any fees, but Venmo or PayPal work too. Let me know and I'll send you the information.

Once you sign up, I will send you The Yoga Impact Manual and a library of videos on mindfulness, yoga sequences, and breathing practices for the on-demand study. And, you can also start with your class hours at that time.

Here are the books that you will need to read. You can borrow them from the library or buy them. You can probably find them used on Amazon.

The Keys to Yoga Anatomy by Ray Long

The Heart of Yoga by Desikachar

The Bhagavad Gita translated by Eknath Easwarn.
